This week we headed out of Alice Springs.
Before leaving, Buckwheat went to see the old dwarf lady and she had him strip and then wound a fine golden chain around his left arm and upper body, and told him not to take it off at any time, but to have the guy he was delivering it to in Darwin take it off, lest it be damaged.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group went and picked up the second half of their cargo for Darwin.
Once they got back together, they headed north again on the Stuart highway. About 200 kilometers north of Alice Springs, they came across a deep, wide gorge that wasn’t on any of the maps and that wasn’t recognized by the satellite navigation system. They decided to follow this gorge to the west, and about 80 kilometers west of the Stuart highway, the gorge finally narrowed to about 10 meters and then abruptly got wider again.
Quicksilver determined that he should be able to jump the gorge in the limo at this point provided they could build him a bit of an approach. Buckwheat tried to conjure a prairie spirit to help moving the earth around for this purpose, and the Outback being what it is, got more than he bargained for, taking a serious wound from the conjuration attempt.
At this point, a giant lizard came upon the group, and thinking that they would make good food, decided to attack. Between Mickey’s marksmanship, Giggy’s luck, and Buckwheat trying asking his spirit to drive off the lizard - and the grenade launcher mounted on the limo, the lizard didn’t last long. Of course, this used Buckwheat’s one service from the spirit, which resulted in a significant amount of chiding from the group about how much help he was being getting them across the gorge.
Eventually, they did get an approach built that Quicksilver thought would be sufficient, piled back into the limo, and did successfully jump the gorge. They then followed the gorge back toward the highway, eventually meeting the highway at the edge of the gorge, looking perfectly intact up until the precipitous edge of the gorge, just like it did at the other side.
They resumed their travels north, and about about another 50 kilometers, Giggy and Buckwheat, the two magically active members of the group got a bad feeling, so Quicksilver pulled over.
