Giggy called the Gutshot to see about getting a heavier weapon.
"Gutshot," a young man's voice said over the phone line, "This is Mike."
"Yeah," Giggy replied, "is Jackilyn available?"
"I'm sorry, she's out today. Is there something I can help you with?"
"I'm looking for an M22-A2 AR."
"Could I get your name?"
"Just tell Jackilyn it's for the Gigster," Giggy said, "She has my number. And let he know I want a Jackilyn special - laser sight and so on."
"I'll let her know. Is there anything else I can help you with today?"
"Thanks, that'll be it for now."
Meanwhile, Nova and Nigel were separately both cruising talismonger's shops. Nigel looking for a teacher to teach him a new spell, and Nova looking for a magic group.
Nigel also contacted Jake about putting him in touch with someone he could rend a new flat from. After a bit of bickering, Jake had Nigel call Gareth. Gareth arranged to meet Nigel downtown to show him some apartments. Nigel was neither expecting to be shown around in a purple limo, nor was he expecting Gareth to be a large troll, though that did explain the strange speech mannerisms over the phone...
Nigel was able to secure a flat on the sixth floor of a high-rise overlooking the beach at the head of Botany Bay, and was then able to track down a teacher.
A few days later, Trinny called Sonny while Sonny and Giggy were out on Sonny's sail boat fishing off the coast.
"How would you feel about an over land haul?" Trinny asked.
"How big is the package?"
"About 2/3m x 1/2m x 1/2m."
"Shouldn't be a problem. What are the details?"
"You pick it up at 9:00am tomorrow at the old warehouse on South Street, and take it to the rest area six kilometers this side of Canberra. At noon the day after tomorrow Martin will pick it up from you at the rest area."
"What's the pay?"
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow morning at 9, then," Sonny said and hung up.
Sonny conference called the rest of the group.
"You guys want to go to a bathroom outside of Canberra?"
"A what?" Nigel asked.
"Are there glow-sticks?" Michelle asked.
"What's the pay?" Rainbow asked.
"Sure," Nova said.
"We have a package to deliver. Pick up is 9 tomorrow morning, then we have 27 hours to get it to Canberra.
"I was thinking we can put the package in the back seat of my car, and have the van follow for cover.
"The pay is 70k when we get back here after dropping it off," Sonny explained.
The next morning Nova, Nigel, and Michelle were waiting in the van with Rainbow in a McDonald's parking lot on South Street.
"Could someone get me a breakfast?" Nigel asked. "They've got to be coming down the street any minute now, and I've got to follow them to the pick up."
Nova and Michelle got out of the van and walked toward the building. A moment later Sonny drove by with Giggy in the passenger seat and the top down. Rainbow pointed them out to Nigel, and Nigel's body went limp as he projected into astral space and followed the car.
A few blocks away, Sonny turned off the street and into a loading dock in front of a large building. A couple of men came out of the building and walked up to the dar. The man with very little cyberware leaned on the frame of Sonny's windshield while the other man stood behind him with his arms crossed over his chest. After a couple of minutes, the two men went back inside and then came out carrying a package between them. The set it gently in the back seat of the convertible and the less-cybered guy went back to talking to Sonny.
However, while the men were bringing out the package, some other thing showed up and started sniffing at Giggy. It looked to be made of various debris - bits of concrete, rocks, street liter, traffic signs, but it didn't seem to be doing anything but sniffing at Giggy.
The transaction completed, Sonny started to pull away, and the garbage monkey thing just watched them go.
Nigel dropped back into his body, and looked around.
"Here's your breakfast," Nova said.
"Thanks," Nigel replied, taking the bag.
"everything went smoothly, then," Rainbow asked, pulling the van out onto te street behind Sonny's car.
'Yeah," Nigel replied. "They talked a bit and then brought out this package and put it in the back seat. There was this thing that came up and sniffed Giggy."
"What kind of thing?" nova asked.
"Well, it looked sort of like a ...er... garbage monkey."
"Did it follow them?" Michelle asked. "It could be a watcher."
"No. It stayed when they pulled away."
"Well, we should keep an eye out for it in case it comes back," Nova said, switching to astral perception as Rainbow merged onto the freeway a few cars behind Sonny.
"I don't see anything," she reported.
"No," Nigel said, "It's back.
"Rainbow, can you get us closer so Nova can take a look?"
"sure," Rainbow replied, accelerating slightly and shuffling around a couple of cars.
"Look there," Nigel said, pointing, "loping alongside the car."
Nova saw the thing, just as it turned around and jumped toward them. It appeared to land in Michelle's lap.
Nova and Nigel both leapt forward toward Michelle. Nova swung a punch toward her, and she dove into Rainbow's lap. Nigel swung at the thing as Rainbow disappeared.
The van calmly pulled over to the side of the road.
Nigel and nova turned their attention to the thing which had returned back under the rear seat, this time Michelle following them - She could see that something had Rainbow.
Michelle could hear Rainbow mumbling as she got closer. "Nobody likes me, they just want the van. And my parents were killed in pointless race violence, it's just not worth it anymore."
Another swift punch form Nova, and the thing left as quickly as it had come - just as Michelle kissed Rainbow to get him to snap out of his melancholy.
"Um..." Rainbow said, looking at Michelle. "We should get back on the road, unless there's reason for delay..."
They got started up again as Giggy's voice came over the radio, "What's the hold-up?"
We're getting back on the road," Rainbow said. "We'll catch up shortly."
"There was some kind of spirit thing," Nova added, "but it's gone now."
