This week we did not make much progress toward Darwin.

Another mana storm that passed over the buried car that night ripped off part of the rear quarter of the car, and rotated the car further, so that is was almost on its side, but in the process of this, left the car only half buried. Giggy, Mickey, and Buckwheat spent a day digging, chipping, clearing, cleaning, and jury-rigging things to get the car out, and eventually, after much coaxing to the autopilot, got the car uncovered and on flat ground again.

Taking turns coaxing the autopilot to drive a little further up the road so that they could get to a mechanic (the autopilot’s biggest concern being the damage to the vehicle and how unsafe that made operating it), Buckwheat, Mickey, and Giggy eventually got the vehicle back on the road and then started moving north.

Beginning to get a feeling for what precedes a mana storm, and knowing that being underground for the second one seemed to make it much more bearable ( and getting this information confirmed by a mechanic in Katherine that they were finally able to get on the phone, they started looking for anyplace where they could get underground when the next storm was coming. They found an old subterranean parking garage in an abandoned town on the highway, and took shelter there. Once the car was secure, when Buckwheat figured they still had a few minutes, they got out an looked around. The found a service room for the elevators, and decided to stay in there rather than in the limo. They went back to the limo and got Quicksilver’s unconscious and severely injured body, and dragged it into the service room with them.

A few minutes into the store, Buckwheat (aren’t the mages supposed to be better at resisting this kind of stuff?) got an irresistible urge to go outside into the storm. Mickey tackled him to try to stop him, but Buckwheat was able to struggle free. Giggy, being tired of dealing with this, pulled out a gun loaded with gel rounds, and fired a burst at Buckwheat. Between Giggy’s good luck with the shot and Buckwheat’s existing wounds, this caused enough damage to give Buckwheat a deadly wound.
